    • About

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a unique natural treasure located at 18220 North Highway 1, just two miles south of Fort Bragg and seven miles north of Mendocino. Our mission is to engage and enrich lives by displaying and conserving plants in harmony with our Northern California coastal ecosystems. This magnificent 47-acre site is one of the few public gardens located directly on the ocean’s shore. The mild maritime climate on the Mendocino Coast makes the Gardens a wonder year-round; each changing season brings new flora and fauna.

Our Gardens are a living museum of plants and ecosystems. Like a museum, we must preserve and protect our specimens for purposes of education, research, conservation, historic preservation, and of course beauty. Our non-profit botanical gardens can only be maintained, strengthened and shared with support from people like you. When you donate to the Gardens, your gift provides us with the resources to keep this natural wonder growing strong!

We welcome visitors and our local community to experience the rugged beauty of the Mendocino Coast mixed with the peaceful tranquility of our garden by the sea. For more information, visit www.gardenbythesea.org.

      Current Health Order

Mendocino County’s revised SIP goes in effect Friday, July 3 at 12:00 p.m. and will be in place until 12:00 p.m. on August 3, 2020. A revised order will be released upon the expiration of this Order.

Health Officer Dr. Noemi Doohan issued a new Shelter-In-Place (SIP) Order today, Wednesday, July 1, 2020, which is slated to go into effect at 12:00 pm on Friday July 3, 2020. The new Order maintains the current stage 3 opening, but adds additional restrictions to certain sectors and activities to ensure public safety in light of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Mendocino County. California’s positivity rate is trending upward and Governor Newsom has made it clear to counties that following the State’s Orders and guidance is mandatory. The State is closely monitoring local counties and cities that are experiencing surges and if necessary the State will come in and require local jurisdictions to roll back openings especially for high risk business sectors. The new Order is in line with State guidance with measures to address high risk areas..

We will be posting resources to help our local businesses during this difficult and unprecedented crisis.

The Chamber is here to support you and our goal is to provide as much information as possible so that you will have access to resources that can help you through this extremely challenging time.

Although our office is closed, I'll be working from home and available via phone and email.  I've temporarily laid off my staff to mitigate the impact on the Chamber budget.

It is designed to represent businesses from Hopland to Laytonville, across the county to Boonville, Fort Bragg and the South coast. The focus of the campaign is to create a central marketing effort to support local businesses to generate income while closed to the public.

The campaign is a perfect platform to market your services, gift cards, and products. It will directly link customers to your selling platform. (delivery, curbside pickup, etc. within the guidelines of the most recent Shelter In Place orders must be observed)

I hope that you are all doing as well as can be expected under these stressful times.

Take care, STAY HOME and be well.
