For the month of August, the Highlight Gallery is featuring three artists Sally Cataldo, Francine Hurd and Laurie DeVault. Sally's loose and juicy watercolors capture a lively serenity most of us long for. She is continually stretching herself, experimenting and growing, in still life, cityscapes and abstracts. Her lifelong practice of painting began with artistic parents, her musician Dad and her Mom, pastel artist Francine Hurd. Francine's pastel landscapes capture a deeply serene sense of place, with the occasional delightful sense of whimsy. So it is entirely appropriate that we celebrate the two in our annual showing of their work. Laurie DeVault's creative process relies on exploration and intuition. She finds the spontaneity of abstract, non-representational art to be very liberating, much like improvisational jazz or dance. Her paintings are mostly acrylic along with the occasional pastels and charcoal pencils.
