Internationally renowned jazz guitarist and composer John Stein has released many wonderful albums under his own name and performs internationally as well as maintaining a faculty position at Berklee College of Music.  John has performed and recorded with some of the world’s finest jazz artists including David “Fathead” Newman, Larry Goldings, Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Bill Pierce.

John Stein . . . the poet of the classical jazz guitar.
Dick Crockett “The Voice” — 88.7fm

What a gift this man has. He’s in an elite class: a mere handful of jazz guitarists who consistently put taste above chops and flash. John Stein has the ability to say so much more with less effort than most of his contemporaries can muster.
Wayne Everett Goins — Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors Magazine

Stein has the touch — a bond with the guitar that only comes from deep spiritual dedication to those strings. Playing a collection of songs so sweetly is a sign of pure musical intelligence.
Layla Macoran — Jazz Inside New York

John will be appearing with the Dave Bass Trio includes Dave-piano, Ben Kopf-bass, and Jack Stanfill-drums.

Pianist Dave Bass, a former Deputy Attorney General for California, has recorded with Karrin Allyson, Phil Woods, Ignacio Berroa, Ernie Watts, Conrad Herwig and Harvie S. Both of Dave’s releases have had wonderful success on the Jazz Radio Charts. Dave’s album “Gone” hit #2 on the JazzWeek charts and his album “NYC Sessions” hit #5.” DownBeat gave NYC Sessions a coveted 4 Stars and named it one of “the best albums of 2015.”

This will be Dave’s second appearance at Jazz at the Sequoia Room.

The Dave Bass Trio and John will perform favorite standards and their own compositions.  You’ll hear Be-bop, blues, bossa-nova, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, ballads and, of course, straight-ahead JAZZ!
