Paper Making w/ Local Plants
This class will introduce students to a rudimentary process for turning such plants as paper mulberry bark, rice straw, stinging nettle, and artist’s conk shelf fungus into beautiful handmade paper. The class will begin with the sometimes consuming process of harvesting , cooking, and beating of these fibers in preparation to form fine even sheets of paper which may be used in a variety of creative applications.
List of items students should bring:
2 yards of sewing Pellon
A blender if available,
Something to transport wet sheets of paper such as a piece of plexiglas Approx 18×24″ or a piece of cardboard covered in plastic wrap or a garbage bag.
