She has performed in various bands, including rock, blues, r&b soul, big band, and jazz. Some of her influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Diane Reeves, Carmen McRae, Mel Torme, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Mary Stallings, Etta James, and DeeDee Bridgewater. Singing is Sharon’s “lifeblood” and her real “happy place”. Her goal is to take her audience and band on a musical journey of joy. Dorian May – piano Dorian May’s piano artistry shapes together classic, modern, and Latin jazz with Bach harmony, world and poly rhythms and is equally at home in world music and classical music as he is with hard-swinging bebop and Cuban Salsa. His diverse collection of influences includes a degree in classical piano performance, keyboardist in a touring Emerson, Lake & Palmer tribute band, and high-school band director. After living and performing in Mendocino County for 20 years, he resides in Eugene, Oregon where he performs at local jazz clubs, wineries, restaurants, and festivals with the Dorian May Trio and other projects. Dorothea May – bass Dorothea May grew up in Germany and fell in love with world music and rhythms when living in and visiting the Middle East and Cuba as a child. In her teens, she played percussion in the youth symphony and continued her studies of world percussion and dance. In her late 20s, after meeting Dorian, she fell in love with the double bass and has played in Big, Salsa, and jazz bands ever since. She resides in Eugene, Oregon, playing double bass in the Dorian May Trio and various Latin Jazz projects with her husband Dorian May, and drummer Georges Bouhey. Gaberiel Yanez – drums Gabe, as he is known in the music community, has earned recognition as the go-to-drummer on the North Coast for jazz, Latin, and funk music in a few short years. Locally cultivated from graduating from Fort Bragg High School, Gabe started his career in heavy metal and quickly developed the lighter touch for the nuances of jazz and Afro-Latin rhythms. He currently owns the drum throne for Mama Grows Funk, his jazz band Cross Currents, and is the first one called for a jazz or Latin gig in the area. We look forward to sharing this special day with you and your family!
