The Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) invites the public to its annual open house. The free community event will be held at Station 840, located at 44700 Little Lake Rd, Mendocino. The open house offers an opportunity for neighbors to meet local volunteer firefighters, see fire trucks and emergency response equipment up close, and learn important fire safety tips. Live music will be provided by Mama Grows Funk. A free BBQ lunch and ice cream will be available. Firefighting and vehicle extrication demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day, and kids of all ages can enjoy truck rides, activities, and giveaways. The open house is a chance for the department to connect with the community they serve and provide education about fire safety and emergency preparedness. They hope many local families and individuals will come out to join us for this fun, informative event. The MVFD is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on volunteers to respond to fires, traffic collisions, medical emergencies, fallen trees and power lines, cliff and water rescues, and other crises in the Mendocino area. New volunteers are always needed and welcome. Information about volunteering with the MVFD will be available at the open house. Donation boots will be out for anyone who would like to contribute monetarily.
