In a show entitled “Conversations,” Arlene Reiss explores her intuitive process of art making where each piece calls forth a different dialogue. She embarks with no preplan nor set ideas. “I try to stay present within myself as well as with the work as it emerges. This involves following where my brush wants to go, sensing what color asks to be used, how much territory wants to be covered, what tool I am drawn to make, what kind of strokes or marks, and which collage pieces are wanted. Much of what happens are experiments which I then either paint over or explore further. My years of experience allows me to have a sense of when the conversation is complete.”
